Kirsters Baish| There’s an elephant in the room every single time a Conservative and a Liberal are together. There are so many aspects to politics that the two groups disagree on, but one major issue that must be addressed is that of welfare. America has a big problem these days, and that problem is our Welfare system. Hard working Americans are struggling to even put food on their tables because they are stuck paying taxes that go right to people who would rather sit on their rear ends than work for a living. While the welfare system in our country was put into place in order to help those who could not work, there are far too many able-bodied adults taking advantage of the system to feed their own lazy lifestyles.
It’s extremely disheartening to say that the truth is if you didn’t work at all you’d be better off than many people who work a full-time job.
Cato Institute conducted a study that determined that benefits for welfare in the United States actually payout more than a full time job that pays minimum wage in at least 35 of the 50 states in our country. The fact of the matter is that the “free” government money is actually more than the equivalent of $15 an hour in more than ten states. In our country, welfare provides more compensation than that of a recently graduated college educated teacher in eleven different states. Welfare in our country also exceeds the salary of a computer programmer in three different states. The real shocker? Some welfare payouts actually top the charts at more than $20 per hour. Hawaii actually has welfare payouts that are the equivalent to $29.13 per hour. DC’s welfare payouts aren’t too far behind at $24.43 per hour. Then there is Massachusetts with $24.30 per hour, Connecticut with $21.33 per hour, and New York coming in at $21.01 per hour. New Jersey comes in at $20.89 per hour and we can’t forget about Rhode Island at $20.83 per hour and Vermont coming in at $20.36. These numbers are absolutely staggering.
If you aren’t angry yet, I don’t know what is going to do it for you. This is exactly what Barack Obama wanted. Creating a welfare system that would bring out the greed in people in turn created a system in which citizens became dependent on the government. The more power that is given to the government, the worse off we are in reality. All the Left cares about is votes and power, and with this twisted welfare system that is what they were striving for.
