While Nation Was Focused on State of the Union, Trump Quietly Signed a New Law, Destroying Obama’s Legacy

Kirsters Baish| If you recall back to nine years ago when former President Barack Obama took office, one of the first things that he did was push for the closure of maximum security prison Guantanamo Bay. The problem with this push is that this was/is the safest place in our country to house radical Islamic extremist terrorists.

Right before President Trump delivered his very first official State of the Union Address, he signed an executive order which will serve to ruin Obama’s entire legacy.

BizPac Review reported that before President Donald Trump took the stage to deliver is State of the Union Address on Tuesday, he had been signing an executive order which would reverse one of former President Barack Obama’s policies.

President Trump signed the order which would keep the maximum security prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba open. This ended former President Barack Obama’s order to close the facility almost ten years ago.

President Trump made the announcement on Tuesday during his State of the Union Address. He referred to the Secretary of Defense, who was sitting in the front row along with other members of President Trump’s cabinet. He explained that he would be “keeping another promise” by his having signed the order. He stated,“I just signed, prior to walking in, an order directing Secretary Mattis, who is doing a great job thank you, to reexamine our military detention policy and to keep open the detention facilities at Guantánamo Bay.”

Trump went on, “Terrorists who do things like place bombs in civilian hospitals are evil. When possible, we annihilate them. When necessary, we must be able to detain and question them. But we must be clear: Terrorists are not merely criminals. They are unlawful enemy combatants. And when captured overseas, they should be treated like the terrorists they are. In the past, we have foolishly released hundreds of dangerous terrorists, only to meet them again on the battlefield — including the ISIS leader, al-Baghdadi.”

One former detainee of Guantanamo Bay stated that former President Barack Obama’s failing to close Gitmo has pushed President Trump to endorse “war crimes.”

It was reported that the British former Guantanamo Bay detainee claimed that former President Barack Obama’s failure to close the detention center has made it easier for President Trump to endorse said “war crimes.”

After President Trump finished his State of the Union Address on Tuesday evening and explained that he had signed the executive order to keep Guantanamo Bay open which would reverse former President Barack Obama’s plan to close the facility, Moazzam Begg spoke. Begg is from the central English city of Birmingham. He was detained in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad back in 2002. He was then transported to Guantanamo Bay in the beginning of 2003. This was a result of the United States having accused Begg of having links with al-Qaeda.

Begg was released from Guantanamo Bay without charges in January of 2005. The Pentagon reported that this was only after the British government explained that Begg would not be posing any kind of security threat. Begg has since stated that he was falsely imprisoned.

Begg spoke to USA Today. During the interview, he referred to an interview with ABC News which took place back in January of 2017. During the interview, President Trump explained that he believes “waterboarding works.”

There would be big problems if the United States were to close down Gitmo. It’s time for the left to understand this once and for all.
