Second Amendment Alert: Illinois House Votes to Confiscate Guns

Elder Patriot – Illinois Democrats have taken the first step to turn their entire state into a “gun-free” zone with the passage of an amendment to House Bill 1465. Rep. Michelle Mussman sponsored the bill.

The bill now moves to the State Senate where 37 Democrats hold sway versus 22 Republicans, which makes passage almost a certainty.

Only a Republican governor stands in the way.

The weapons covered by HB 1465 were described by the NRA-ILA as “commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms.”  The bill strips 18-20 year olds of the right to own these firearms by requiring them to transfer ownership to someone else or to turn them in.

It also requires 18-20-year-olds to forfeit ownership of any magazines that hold more than ten rounds of ammunition.

Critics of HB 1465 are alarmed by “the idea that the government would confiscate property.”  The bill’s sponsor counters that “a first offense for getting caught with prohibited firearms would be a misdemeanor offense.”

Regardless, this bill is only limited by what the Democrats believe they can force through at this time.  Their end game is to turn the whole state into Chicago.

It’s illogical to strip an 18, 19, or 20-year old in the military, who is armed with these weapons and sent overseas to defend others, to surrender the right to self-defense when he returns to Illinois.

If 18-20 year olds, as a group, are incapable of making reasoned decisions perhaps the voting age should be raised to reflect that.
