First Rosenstein, Now Fusion GPS Co-Founder Glenn Simpson, Panics, Goes Against Subpoena Issued By Congress … Refuses to Testify

The ever-so shifty Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein didn’t show up for his scheduled interview with GOP lawmakers earlier today. Now we have learned that co-foudner of Fusion GPS has refused to testify in front of the House Judiciary Committee.

Lawmakers were hoping that Simpson would help to clarify things after DOJ official Bruce Ohr’s testimony in front of Congress this past August appeared to be conflicted.

Glenn Simpson’s lawyers spoke to Bob Goodlatte, House Judiciary Chairman, this past Thursday. They reportedly told Goodlatte that Simpson will “invoke his constitutional rights not to testify,” which goes against a GOP-issued subpoena asking him to agree to a closed-door testimony.

Simpson’s attorneys tried to claim that the House Oversight and House Judiciary Committees are not looking for the truth, but instead they are simply working to “discredit and otherwise damage witnesses to Russia’s interference in the 2016 election.”

The Hill reported:

The lawyers told Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) in an electronic letter that Simpson will not participate in the committee’s inquiry because it “is not designed to discover the truth.”

“Consistent with the September 27, 2018 letter we sent to you, Mr. Simpson, whose testimony is a matter of public record, will not be participating in a confidential deposition before this Committee,” lawyers for Simpson wrote, according to a copy of the letter obtained by The Hill. “He will instead invoke his constitutional rights not to testify under the First and Fifth Amendments of the Constitution.”

In the latest scathing letter, the lawyers continued to slam the committee — marking a departure from the otherwise typically quiet approach that most lawyers and witnesses involved in this joint probe have taken.

“The obvious — and at times explicitly stated — goal of this Committee is to discredit and otherwise damage witnesses to Russia’s interference in the 2016 election, all as part of an effort to protect a President who has sought to placate and curry favor with a hostile foreign power and who demands that the Justice Department stop investigating him,” the attorneys wrote.

They accused the Republicans on the panels of trying to “ruin the reputations of some of the government’s most dedicated and experienced civil servants,” in order to “weaken the independence of this Justice Department.”

Simpson hired ex-British spy Christopher Steele to put together the 35-page fabricated dossier while the 2016 presidential election was taking place. The FBI used the unverified document in order to obtain a FISA warrant, which granted them access to spy on the Trump campaign.

Failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and the crooked DNC funded the salacious dossier, paying Simpson and Steele. Then, they tried to disguise the payments by putting them through the liberal Perkins Coie law firm.

Numerous House GOP members have alleged that Nellie Ohr might have given her husband, Bruce Ohr (a now twice demoted DOJ official), the document.

She, too, refused to testify. GOP lawmakers are getting ready to subpoena her to compel a testimony.

On Thursday, Republican Representatives Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan bashed the Fusion GPS co-founder via Twitter.

Representative Meadows wrote, “Rod Rosenstein doesn’t show today. Now Fusion’s Glenn Simpson reportedly takes the Fifth. At some point, we have to realize: the problem has never been President Trump. The problem is the coordinated effort to undermine him… and those who will stop at nothing to cover it up.”

Representative Jim Jordan tweeted, “You know we’re getting close when first Rosenstein is a no-show, and now Glenn Simpson is taking the 5th.”
