Kirsters Baish| One of our great nation’s World World II veterans turned 100 years old on June 6th. For his birthday, he made a wish for 100 birthday cards. He got a lot more than he asked for when his birthday rolled around.
Isaac “Ike” Fabela received over 50,000 cards in the mail and tons of gifts for his 100th birthday. There was one birthday card from “the big one”- the White House.
Take a look at his reaction:
In the video, Fabela can be seen overcome with joy as he slits open an envelope from the White House. Inside was a signed picture of President Donald Trump. There was also a letter from President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.
“We hope your heart is filled with joy knowing you have experienced this country’s greatest blessing: the freedom and affection of family and friends over a long, well-lived life,” he read aloud.
“A big, heartfelt thank you does not express the gratitude,” Lolie, one of the veteran’s eight daughters, explained to Fox News. “I wish I could show everyone how thankful and gracious we are — he is so humbled by all of this.”
Fabela was born in 1918. He served in World War II between the years 1944 and 1946. During the war, he served in both Germany and Norway. He almost saw action on D-Day back in 1944, which was also his birthday, however he was taken off a boat that was leaving for the Normandy at the last minute, his daughter explained to Fox News.
“When someone calls him a hero, it touches his heart. But he doesn’t feel like he deserves that title. He always says that the young men who didn’t make it back are the heroes,” Lolie explained.
“Jurassic World” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” actor Chris Pratt also worked to make the veteran’s special birthday wish come true:

Lollie said, “He [Ike] is a very humble man and says that he’s never done anything to deserve all this. But he has.”
