Kirsters Baish| This past Friday, ABC’s “The View” had Democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as a guest on the show. When asked the difference between socialism and Democratic socialism, Ocasio-Cortez gave a horrifying answer… she couldn’t explain the difference.
The Washington Free Beacon reports that co-host and daughter to Senator John McCain, Meghan McCain, questioned the guest about her particular Party’s views, aka the Democratic Socialists of America.
McCain asked Ocasio-Cortez, “Do you think that the future of the Democratic Party is socialism?”
“First of all, there’s a huge difference between socialism and Democratic socialism. Democratic socialism, and really what that boils down to me, is the basic belief that I believe that in a moral and wealthy America and a moral and modern America, no person should be too poor to live in this country,” Ocasio-Cortez dumbly responded.
It was clear that Ocasio-Cortez was unable to provide differences between socialism and Democratic socialism.
The Democratic socialist went on, “That’s what I believe. I can understand that there may be some divisions. You know, I don’t think people wake up in the morning and say, ‘I’m a capitalist!’”
Take a look at the clip of the interview below:
The Hill reports that Ocasio-Cortez also appeared on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” this week for an interview with host Stephen Colbert. The host asked her what it meant to be a Democratic socialist to her, personally.
“For me, democratic socialism is about — really, the value for me is that I believe that in a modern, moral and wealthy society, no person in America should be too poor to live,” Ocasio-Cortez responded.
The Hill writes, “Ocasio-Cortez said she believes health care is a human right and that all children should be able to attend either a trade school or college as part of her platform as a democratic socialist.”
