Kirsters Baish| The mainstream media is full of double standards, but the one that this article is targeting is the issue of underage illegal immigration. This is topic has been at the forefront of American politics for the last few weeks, sparking extreme controversy from the left.
It seems that the Democrats are not taking into account the fact that the Obama administration spent years detaining minors at the border between the United States and Mexico. Instead, they are simply blaming President Trump for doing his job and enforcing regulations that had been put into place prior to his inauguration.
People like Joe Scarborough of MSNBC actually compared our country’s law enforcement officials to cold blooded Nazis, simply because they are doing their jobs and separating minors who are brought into the United States illegally by adults who have committed federal crimes prior to placing said adults in prison. Yup, the left are blaming the Trump administration for not throwing children in jail along with their parents/guardians. Instead, these children are taken into protective custody.
So, the same mainstream media who didn’t say a single word when immigrant minors were detained for years under the Obama administration are coming out of the woodwork now to bash Trump. There is a very clear bias here, and the media is ignoring the fact that the Obama administration played a part in a handful of these children falling into the hands of human traffickers.
In 2016, New York magazine reported, “The United States government placed an unknown number of Central American migrant children into the custody of human traffickers after neglecting to run the most basic checks on these so-called ‘caregivers,’” following a Senate report.
Their solution is always to blame Trump, but this happened in 2013… that’s right in the middle of Barack Obama’s time in the White House. There’s no blaming Trump here.
New York magazine read, “In the fall of 2013, tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors traveled to the U.S. southern border. At least six of those children were eventually resettled on an egg farm in Marion, Ohio, where their sponsors forced them to work 12 hours a day under threats of death.”
At the time, Republican Ohio Senator Rob Portman explained to the New York Times, “It is intolerable that human trafficking — modern-day slavery — could occur in our own backyard.”
Portman stated, “But what makes the Marion cases even more alarming is that a U.S. government agency was responsible for delivering some of the victims into the hands of their abusers.”
When adults came to “claim” the immigrant minors, the Obama White House barely followed through with basic checks prior to releasing the children to them.
New York magazine wrote, “As detention centers became incapable of housing the massive influx of migrants, the [Obama-run] Department of Health and Human Services started placing children into the care of sponsors who would oversee the minors until their bids for refugee status could be reviewed,” proving that the mistreatment began long before Donald Trump’s arrival in Washington.
Conservative Tribune reports of the matter:
The current administration at least provides comfortable and safe housing for the children who are separated from their parents. Obama’s team did something very different.
“But in many cases, officials failed to confirm whether the adults volunteering for this task were actually relatives or good Samaritans — and not unscrupulous egg farmers or child molesters,” the magazine reported about the Obama-era scandal.
“The department performed check-in visits at caretakers’ homes in only 5 percent of cases between 2013 and 2015,” it continued. “The Senate’s investigation built on an Associated Press report that found more than two dozen unaccompanied children were placed in homes where they were sexually abused, starved, or forced into slave labor.”
Shockingly, nobody knows for certain how many immigrant children ended up in horrific slavery-like circumstances under Obama’s watch. Over 90,000 immigrant children were placed into so-called “sponsor care” during the time-frame of 2013 to 2015.
New York magazine dropped a bombshell toward the end of the article, explaining “Exactly how many of those fell prey to traffickers is unknown, because the agency does not keep track.”
The Trump administration is doing everything in their power to fix the immigration problems in our country, but the truth is that the mainstream media unfairly places the blame on a man who has been in office for less than two years. The damage that Trump is trying to reverse is the result of many years of lax leadership, not the fault of one administration.
