Kirsters Baish| Judge T.S. Elliot, a Reagan appointed Senior United States District Judge for Virginia’s Eastern District, got into a 10-minute long argument with Mueller’s prosecution in the Manafort bank fraud and tax evasion trial. It all started when Paul Manafort’s former business associate, Rick Gates, took the stand to testify on Monday.
It was reported by the Gateway Pundit that Judge Ellis scolded one of the prosecutors during a 10-minute long argument.
“You looked down as if to say ‘that’s B.S.!’” the Judge said. “I’m up here!”
He schooled the prosecution.
From Fox News:
U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III specifically pushed Andres on why the prosecution was moving slowly with Rick Gates – the former Manafort business partner who testified on Monday – and specifically to describe the link between wealthy Ukrainian politicos and Manafort. Ellis argued that the connection was not the basis of the case.
“What matters are the allegations that he made money from them and didn’t report it,” Ellis said. “You don’t need to throw mud at these people.”
Ellis again compared the Ukrainians in question to American billionaires and “Mr. Koch and Mr. Soros” as political contributors.
Andres said of the Ukrainians, “I don’t know why you keep bringing (up) these people. These people are not like any Americans. These people are oligarchs and that means they control a segment of the economy based on the governments allowing them to do that.”’ He went on, “These are not really political contributions. They are self-serving payments with respect to what oligarchs do.”
“That makes it even clearer to me that it doesn’t have anything to do with the allegations in this case. It throws dirt on these people. They may deserve it. I don’t know – and I don’t care,” answered Ellis.
There was another moment during the argument that Andres was heard challenging Ellis on a technicality. Andres stated, “Respectively, judge, that is not what the law is.”
The height of the argument came when the Judge became angry by Andres when he decided to not look at Ellis while speaking.
“Look at me! Don’t look down,” Ellis insisted.
Andres answered by saying that he was looking at an important document, but that only made Ellis even more angry.
“You looked down as if to say ‘that’s B.S.!’” Ellis insisted. “I’m up here!”
Gates testified on Monday that he had committed crimes during his time working for Manafort. The crimes took place before the 2016 presidential election. Gates also claimed that he had helped the former Trump adviser file false tax returns. He also claims that he stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from Manafort, as reported by CNN.
Judge Ellis has made a name for himself with his no nonsense style in the courtroom. He is a Reagan appointee and understands what Mueller and his cronies are trying to do.
It was just last week that Mueller’s prosecutors attacked Paul Manafort for his rich lifestyle and expensive suits. Ellis wasn’t happy with their attack.
“It isn’t a crime to have money and be profligate with your spending,” Judge Ellis reminded Mueller’s prosecutor.
