Kirsters Baish| An excerpt from Arizona Senator John McCain’s upcoming member was released by Apple News on Monday. A passage from the 81-year-old senator’s book revealed that he would not be seeking re-election. The line reads, “This is my last term.”
The news doesn’t come as much of a surprise following McCain’s announcement that he had been diagnosed with brain cancer. In his soon-to-be-released memoir, he explains that since this will be his last term, so he feels comfortable expressing his opinions on what is going on in the current political climate.
“This is my last term. If I hadn’t admitted that to myself before this summer, a stage 4 cancer diagnosis acts as ungentle persuasion,” he wrote in his book, “The Restless Wave,” according to the excerpt published on Apple News on Monday. “I’m freer than colleagues who will face the voters again. I can speak my mind without fearing the consequences much. And I can vote my conscience without worry.”
McCain referred to President Trump saying, “He has declined to distinguish the actions of our government from the crimes of despotic ones. The appearance of toughness, or a reality show facsimile of toughness, seems to matter more than any of our values.”
The Senator stated that he wants to see the country’s policies “return to the purposes and practices that distinguish our history” and stated, “you’re damn right, I’m a champion of compromise.”
He went on, “I would like to see us recover our sense that we are more alike than different. We are citizens of a republic made of shared ideals forged in a new world to replace the tribal enmities that tormented the old one. Even in times of political turmoil such as these, we share that awesome heritage and the responsibility to embrace it.”
Senator McCain’s wife tweeted that former Vice President Joe Biden paid the senator a visit recently.
“Enjoyed a wonderful visit from @JoeBiden yesterday. Such good family friends. Enjoyed catching up!” she tweeted out.
It’s not a total shock that McCain is close friends with Biden. McCain has had no issue allying with those who despise the conservative movement in the past, so why would he now?
Recall back to the news breaking about the infamous Trump dossier… McCain definitely wasn’t innocent.
We wish Mr. McCain good luck with his health and good riddance to his politics, once and for all.
