Kirsters Baish| Facebook recently admitted to the world that the corporation gave out the personal data of more than 50 million people. Needless to say, there has been some serious backlash towards to social media empire. Founder Mark Zuckerberg agreed to testify in front of Congressional investigators on the matter within the next few weeks.
The negative feedback started earlier in March when Facebook admitted to having given sensitive material to Cambridge Analytica as well as other organizations during the entirety of the 2016 presidential campaign and after that. This left Facebook users wondering what else of theirs is at risk? Are our photos and personal information being sold on the internet without our knowledge?
At the center of it all is Facebook’s internal software. This software can actually predict your political preferences. Yup, Facebook can predict whether you’re ultra conservative or super liberal. If you’re wanting to find out what Facebook has gathered from your personal information you can do the following:
- Open account “Settings.”
- Select “Ads” on the left-hand column.
- Click “Your Information” and then “Your Categories.”
- It will then reveal if Facebook thinks your “very conservative,” “very liberal,” and everything in between.
We live in a world where everything about everyone is out there for anyone to find. People openly share the most personal of information about themselves with total strangers on the internet. People hide behind false pretenses that there is total anonymity on the internet, when in reality this is as far from the truth as it gets. Anyone can be tracked on the internet. Your personal information is never safe, no matter how many firewalls you have. There are always ways for leaks to happen, and when social media giants like Facebook are admitting to having released users’ personal information you know we’re in trouble.
