After Dems Refuse To Support Law To Keep Migrant Families Together, Trump Signs E.O. Solving Problem Himself

Kirsters Baish| As we previously reported, the Democrats rejected a bill yesterday that would have allowed illegal immigrant families to stay together at the border. Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer stated on Tuesday that the Democrats would not be backing a Republican proposal to keep immigrant families from being separated at the United States border with Mexico.

There have been 148 cases reported by Homeland Security officials in which someone pretended to be the family member of a migrant child at the border between October and April.

This Wednesday, it was announced by Trump’s White House that they are considering taking executive action in order to stop the separation of families at the border.

Fox News reports:

The White House is considering executive action to allow children to stay with parents caught crossing the border illegally, Fox News has learned — a step that could avoid the family separations that have triggered a national outcry and political crisis for Republicans.

The action under consideration would allow children to stay in detention with parents for an extended period of time. This comes as congressional Republicans scramble to draft legislation to address the same issue, but face challenges mustering the votes.

The Trump administration has boasted a “zero tolerance” policy when it comes to immigration. They have made it clear from the beginning that they are looking to stop and charge all those who cross the border illegally. Due to an order from 1997, migrant children are not able to be held for more than 20 days with the adults.

Fox News’ sources stated that if President Trump were to take this kind of executive action, it would likely end in a lawsuit. The Trump administration is hoping to keep enforcing the law, but also putting a stop to the separation of children from their parents.

Democrat Senator Chuck Schumer then stated what we already knew. The left don’t want to actually do anything to fix the problem. They want to keep the issue alive so that they can have something to point the finger at Trump for. As Conservative talk show personality Rush Limbaugh stated, they want to have something to distract from Trump’s booming economy and the newly released Inspector General report, which proves that the FBI and the DOJ had political motives.

UPDATE: At 3pm Eastern Time today, President Trump signed the executive order which will keep migrant families together at the border between the United States and Mexico.

The New York Times reports:

President Trump caved to enormous political pressure on Wednesday and signed an executive order that ends the separation of families by indefinitely detaining parents and children together at the border.

“We’re going to have strong, very strong borders but we are going to keep the families together,” Mr. Trump said as he signed the order at the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office. “I didn’t like the sight or the feeling of families being separated.”

The order said that officials will continue to criminally prosecute everyone who crosses the border illegally, but will seek to find or build facilities that can hold families — parents and children together — instead of separating them while their legal cases are considered by the courts.

Mr. Trump’s executive order directed the government’s lawyers to ask for a modification of an existing 1997 consent decree, known as the Flores settlement, that currently prohibits the federal government from keeping children in immigration detention — even if they are with their parents — for more than 20 days.

Even though the Democrats tried to block the executive order to keep families together, Trump made sure that he would do everything in his power to help the children who need him. The Democrats had ought to be ashamed of themselves.
