Democrat Proposes Bill That Will Allow Illegal Immigrants to Hold Public Office

Kirsters Baish| A bill that would allow illegal immigrants to serve in state office is being co-sponsored by Democrat California State Senator Ricardo Lara. The bill, labeled as SB 174, would change an older provision within the state code which was drawn up in 1872 “to exclude Chinese immigrants and other ‘transient aliens’ from holding appointed civil positions,” according to the Los Angeles Times.

Lara’s proposed changes would allow anyone, regardless of immigration status, to run for state offices. This mens that anyone who is in the state is able to serve.

At least two illegal aliens have already been elected into state office in the state of California. The most recent illegal immigrant to take a seat in office is Lizbeth Mateo, who was appointed by Democrat State Senator from Los Angeles, Kevin de León. Mateo was appointed to the California Student Opportunity and Access Program Project Grant Advisory Committee.

Mateo was brought into the United States illegally by her parents as a minor, however she is not eligible for deferred deportation due to DACA. She did return to Mexico in 2013 and tried to come back into the United States while taking part in a protest. Authorities detained Mateo at the border. Asylum was requested after she spent time in Mexico with her family.

Breitbart News reports:

Last year, Lara helped introduce the “Healthy California Act,” which would create a single-payer, government-run health care system in the state — though he never indicated how the state would pay for it. He also proposed legislation to discriminate against any contractors who work on President Trump’s border wall, banning them for life from doing business with the state. Lara also successfully introduced sanctuary state legislation that prevents local governments and law enforcement agencies from contracting with the federal government to detain illegal immigrants.

Despite his left-wing politics, which fit the current political climate in the state, Lara is reportedly losing badly to former California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner, who is running for his old job as an independent rather than as a Republican.
